Giuseppe Gemiti scored his first Serie A goal 10 minutes from time to earn Novara a 1-1 draw at home to Siena.
The 30-year-old former Germany under-21 international fired home to cancel out Emanuele Calaio's 17th-minute opener for Siena.
The draw ended a run of two straight defeats without scoring for the hosts, but it was not enough to stop them slipping into the bottom three.
The visitors were the first to threaten and Cristiano Del Grosso fired a free-kick over the bar.
Reginaldo Ferreira then set up Francesco Bolzoni to test Novara goalkeeper Alberto Maria Fontana with an effort from outside the area.
A goal was coming and Simone Vergassola shot wide from way out before Calaio put Siena ahead.
Fontana produced a fine save to deny Pablo Andres Gonzalez from close range following Angelo's corner, but Calaio tapped in the rebound.
On-loan striker Jeda shot wide from inside the area as Novara sought a quick response and Marco Rigoni then brought a save out of Zeljko Brkic with a 25-yard effort.
Novara ended the first half in the ascendancy and started the second in the same vein as Riccardo Meggiorini burst into the area only to shoot wide.
Brkic then had to punch away Filippo Porcari's cross-shot from the right.
Siena looked to be rocking, but they showed they could still be dangerous with Del Grosso sending his free-kick straight into Fontanas' arms.
Calaio's fired a half-volley wide from inside the area and Bolzoni worked Fontana with a long-range strike, but the visitors could not find a second goal.
Instead the hosts pushed forward and Massimo Paci headed over from a corner before Meggiorini wasted a golden close-range chance to equalise in the 79th minute.
Novara were level in the 80th minute, though, as Gemiti picked out the top left corner with a left-footed effort.
Andrea Mazzarani had a chance in injury time to win it for Novara, but he shot wide as they had to make do with a point.
